Stitchin' Scotsman How To Measure

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLOTHING MEASUREMENTS

When measuring be careful to measure accurately - tape measure should be snug, not tight. If your measurements are wrong and too large usually the garment can be taken in, but too small a measurement and there is almost nothing we can do.

PANTS

(1) Your regular "size" (example: 36 waist/30 length). (2) Waist. (3) Hip (widest spot). (4) Inseam. (5) Thigh at Crotch. (5a). Thigh 5" Below Crotch. (6) Distance between your waist down to hip measurement. (7) Rise - measure from waist band front to waist band back between legs on a comfortable pair of pants (do not include waist band in measurement.)

BREECHES

I will need all the measurements for pants but also (8) Length from waist to just below the knee. (Where they stop) and (9) measure around the leg just below the knee so the closure at the lower leg is correct. PLEASE NOTE; Leather breeches do not have a gathered seat like cloth breeches.

LEGGINGS

(1) your pants size (2) Upper thigh (3) in seam length (4) out seam top to bottom.

SHIRT/JACKET/COAT

Shirts, jackets and coats come with leather ties as the front closure, which is quite authentic. If you wish, you may change that to hand cast pewter buttons, black horn buttons or hand cut antler buttons for a small additional charge, see below. (1)Your regular size (example: shirt 16 collar/30 sleeve) first then (2) Chest (3) Back Length for Shirt is shoulder to waist plus 6 inches/ Jacket is shoulder to waist plus 10 inches/ and Coat is to mid-thigh (4) Waist (5) Arm length (measure from shoulder to wrist with arm slightly bent forward) (6) Back (from shoulder seam to shoulder seam) (7) Sleeve Opening (make sure hand fits through the opening easily.)

DRESS

(1) Your regular dress size (example: size 12) first then (2) Bust (3) Waist (4) Hips (5) Length from shoulder to hem. Specify which style Indian dress you wish, one strap (1 hide), skirt and poncho, 2-hide dress or 3-hide dress style.

MOCCASINS

Hard soled moccasins are made from heavy elk hide with a medium thickness of cowhide sewn on and another heavier thickness of cow hide glued to that with a special glue (3 soles). This type of hard sole is NOT authentic, (this moccasin has been accepted at all rendezvous) but allows you to walk on hard/rocky ground almost pain free and you have the ability to resole them yourself. I send resoling instructions with the shipment.

Mink Oil can be applied to help make them more water resistant for an extra charge of $5.00 on request. (Mink Oil will darken the leather somewhat.) Soft sole moccasins are of the same heavy weight elk hide. The soft moccasins are more authentic but cannot be resoled when they are worn out. Soft Sole moccasins include a separate moccasin weight sole insert.

Draw your foot. Stand with your weight on the foot you are tracing and measuring. Your can use cardboard (cereal box, shoebox etc.) or grocery sack and have someone else draw around both your feet holding the pencil as straight up and down as possible. DON’T DRAW YOUR OWN FEET. THE MEASUREMENT WILL BE WRONG! The moccasin will not fit and you will be unhappy with them and me.

(1) Your shoe size (2) Measure the Arch of both feet (the highest part of foot where foot meets ankle) use a tape measure, or cotton string all the way around the foot while standing with weight on the foot you are measuring. (3) Measure the Ball of both feet (Widest part where toes connect with foot) all the way around both feet while standing with weight on the foot that is being measured.
