AHH, BRAIN TAN
O.K… so you've had your commercially tanned 'skins' for a while. They're getting pretty old, greasy, hard and it's just about time to replace them. You've been to enough rendezvous to know what to carry, what should stay home in the garage or want you to put on the blanket at the next rendezvous. You have gone over to a flintlock or are saving your money for that custom made smoke pole that you've been doing all that research on. It's time to go all the way.I now have access to large, hand fleshed, natural, brain tanned deer hides that I get from a couple of guys out West. The hides that I get from them are not shaved to a uniform thickness, as are commercial leather hides. They are light weight, tough and hard wood smoked strong enough for the smell to remind you of sitting in front of a campfire even before you even get there. I'm impressed with the quality and finish of these hides. They "shine" are "some punkins" and "fat cow."
Since these hides are individually hand done, there will be additional shipping time depending on the Western deer hunting season. Perfect takes time. During hunting season, these guys are not working; they're hunting and buying hides.
